What to do when the west is a wall of rain
The Atlantic does not care that you booked a clifftop afternoon. Wind closes boardwalks. Spray makes a coast road slower than your plan. That is ordinary weather here, not bad luck.
Move the cliff to another morning. Spend the closed day in a town with a bookshop and a bus, or take an inland national road. The N6, N17, and N5 are dull in a useful way. You still cross the country. You do not stand on a wet edge for a photograph you cannot keep your feet for.
If you already drove out
Turn around before the last narrow bend if the gusts move the car. A harbour car park and a flask is a finished day. The road will be there when the front passes.
A shut gate on a headland is the day’s instruction. Follow it.
